Updating house exterior
After picking who to go with, it was color picking time.We decided that we wanted the trim to be one color and the siding to be another color, just so the house had a little more dimension.Fading from sunshine, damage from storms or the aftermath of your lead-footed teenager ramming into the side of your house — there are many things that can take a toll on siding. If your siding is damaged in just one spot, say on the side of the house from a car bump or a small fire, you might be considering replacing just the siding on that area. Many companies don’t do patchwork because it’s a liability for the contractor, Dawn says. When we first moved into our house, I did a lot of work on the inside – adding entryway tile, turning a tiny bedroom into an office/playroom, adding lighting, et cetera – but aside from doing some (necessary, thanks to the drought) xeriscaping, I pretty much gave up on the house exterior.” Because on this house, details and flair are nowhere to be found.
These are all my favorite ideas I have compiled from all over the web.
It didn’t hurt that they were recommended by a neighbor up the street along with a wish-she-was-our-neighbor friend of ours.
They also were the most flexible (which enabled us to save an extra 1k by doing some things ourselves, but more on that later).
:-) I have tried to clean them of dirt, bugs, and mud wasp nests, but since the only way to clean them is to put your hand up through the opening on the bottom, it is very hard to do. I went in search of fixtures that were not only more to my liking, but that would be easy to clean as well. It is not until you go inside or see the house from the lake side that you see the house is a bigger two-story house that has a totally different appeal. I chose 3 Belden Place Outdoor Wall Sconces from Hinkley. The Belden Place lights are the perfect size and color and so well made.
To find just the right lights to blend with both personalities of the house, I went to Del Mar Fans and Lighting and looked at literally hundreds of outdoor lighting options. The glass is easy to take on and off so cleaning bugs and other nasties that I know are going to like the lights as much as I do will be easy to do.My trusty electrician was around after the lights were delivered so I asked him if he could switch out the old lights for the new ones.
